Which TDS do I need?
  • If you have just a single telephone line installed, then use either the TDS1 or TDS1SR. If you have two or more telephone lines, you can use any model (or combination) of TDS.

  • TDS1 Use this model to allow multiple users to call in and listen to an audio broadcast from your venue. Depending on your conference supplier, up to 120 callers can listen simultaneously. Note: DTSystems does NOT supply conferencing services - you must organise this yourself.

  • TDS1SR Works exactly the same as the TDS1 and has all the same options and facilities but in addition, is bi-directional so you can RECEIVE audio at the venue FROM the telephone line.

  • TDS2 This model requires two telephone lines and is two independent TDS1 units in a single box. This can carry the same audio and distribute to both circuits or can carry two completely seperate audio feeds. For example at a live event, broadcasting an English and foreign language translation simultaneously. Or at a large event, doubling up on connections and allowing up to 240 listeners to receive the same audio feed (using ConferenceGenie). Or maybe during bad weather when two congregations share a hall and the first one cancels a morning meeting. With a TDS2, BOTH congregations can listen to the afternoon program using their own individual conference PIN numbers.

  • Whilst a conferencing facility allows multiple callers to use one line, having additional line(s) and a TDS2 is still very beneficial. Some users are too frail (physically or mentally) to cope with dialling multiple numbers and find the process of connecting to the conference system more than they can handle. In this case, calling them from the meeting hall on a second (or third...) dialup circuit is a life line for them. It also maintains the personal touch of including them from the meeting hall.

  • Some are just too poor to afford the connection charges and really appreciate being called directly from the meeting hall on a second (or third...) dialup circuit - a real kindness expressed towards them by the body of the congregation.

  • The TD1S/R version allows sound from the telephone line to be put over the meeting hall sound system. Some congregations have used this to "listen in" to other meetings when, for example, the public speaker gets lost etc, or to take pre-arranged answers. Foreign language meetings can also be shared this way. Connections. One congregation allowed a disabled publisher to give a TMS item over the system using a TD1S/R. Please note that if you want to use a TDS1S/R to receive audio from elsewhere, you will be unable to use the SAME telephone line to connect to a conference call. You would need a second telephone line and TDS1 to do this.

  • The TD2 is two identical TD1s in a single box. Whilst ConferenceGenie allows multiple callers to use one line, having additional line(s) is still very beneficial.   • Most new installations have at least two telephone lines installed as standard - one for general calls and the other for an alarm system emergency dial out facility. It makes good sense to use both lines for the Dialup system especially the alarm line that is by definition, switched off when the building is in use. Most people have access to a mobile telephone and hence the need to retain land line facilities for "emergency" use are irrelevant.

    However, you WILL need to make the alarm line ICB (Incoming Calls Barred) to prevent anyone jamming the line when the building is unoccupied (contact your local telephone company for this facility). Note also that the Dialup will work in Manual mode only on this line since people are by definition (ICB) unable to ring in. This does make good use of an existing line during the only period of time that it is normally idle ie when the building is occupied!

  • Whilst the majority of callers on the unlimited dial in line will be short term sick or even other venues, it is worth remembering that they (the caller) bear the call charge. There may be some too poor to afford this and the second line can be used as a dial out from the venue such that the call charge is paid for by the venue.

  • Positive advantages are seen when the long term sick are rung from the venue just before the meeting starts (especially if rung by their own group leader). This makes them feel wanted and included in the proceedings. Accurate reports can be fed to the live audience about the condition and status (ie are visits a good idea? What about phone calls, cards etc.) again including the sick in the meetings.

  • Some invalids may not be able to dial out but can receive calls.

  • Confidentiality: There may be times when only specific listeners are allowed to be connected and in this case a TDS2 two line Dialup unit can be used to connect up to four elderly / infirm principals to listen to confidential meetings. In this case the Dialup unit is used manually (dial out) for both lines.

  • Remote locations or for emergency use: A TDS2 allows one line to call a remote location and listen in to their program with the output going to a line input on the local sound system. The other line can then still be used as a local multiple dial in or two person dial out as required.

  • Where facilities are shared - capital and ongoing costs are divided accordingly.
